LIFE AS A BAIT DOG..a life worth saving!
MEET MARVELOUS MARV, a sweet pit bull who endured so much as a bait dog and yet is sweet and gentle as can be!
He was running just off a main highway in Georgia as if he was hopeful someone would help him, as if he was running away from something. It didn’t take long for Richard to figure out that was likely what was happening. He guessed that this dog was lucky to have escaped a life of horrible abuse. Marv’s face was scared due to life as a “bait” dog used in dog fighting rings. He was limping and super skinny, but was very friendly, as if grateful to find a kind friend. He came right up to Richard trusting and tail wagging. And when Richard put his arms around him, he became calm and allowed him to be picked up and put into the truck.
He was so gentle in approaching, as if to say “can you help me, please”. There was no turning away from this dog. There was something in his sweet and gentle nature that made Richard know he could not turn his back.
What’s incredible to me is to witness the obvious abuse on his face in the form of those scars and to know that in spite of being mistreated, he had no reservations about trust and kindness. It’s sad to know that this kind of trust and caring for humans can sometimes be a mistake that can often cause pain and even death to animals like Mary.
But that day was Marv’s lucky day….Richard found him and reached out to Diamond Dogs Rescue, Inc. He became a part of the Diamond Dogs family and was subsequently adopted by one of their fosters moms, Jensie Swartz. Besides a mom and dad to love him now, he has two canine siblings, a couple of feline siblings, two human brothers and is so loved by all the family and fosters who pass through their doors. He’s like a good will ambassador to our Diamond Dog Rescue fostered there now!
