Rescued Dog

BUTCH CASSIDY- JUST A LUCKY BREAK!

I want to share the story of our rescue named Cassidy.
It’s a story filled with emotions, fear, sadness, happiness, anger, disgust and surprise.
When surfing through the Robeson County Shelter in NC photos of dogs that needed rescue I came across the face of this pup named Arkie.  Diamond Dogs Rescue was beyond full but I HAD to post this dog and beg for a rescue. I posted that the photo of Arkie showed a dog who was so scared but didn’t want to show it and who “put on a brave face” in spite of his great fear!

And, my post did not get a rescue but got a message from my friend Joyce Lazar O’hara that said “OMG why did you write about that puppy trying to be brave. I have to admit you made me cry at my desk when I read it. My heart cracked. I can’t even look at their faces. For some reason I think that reading that made me think of my dad when they told him his cancer was back. OMG his face looked like that and you saying he tried to be strong and I think that’s why I got broken.” SADNESS, FEAR.
So, I messaged my friend who was headed to the shelter to pick up another dog and I asked her to get this BRAVE puppy for me and I sent his picture to her phone. When she got there she messaged me back saying, “the terrier mix was adopted by Saving Grace, a rescue out of Raleigh and they asked if you would consider taking #2074 instead. He has no more time and will be euthanized tomorrow. I’ve got an extra crate so if you say okay I can get that one”
Of course I said okay. There’s something about getting a message that asks if you can SAVE A LIFE that weighs heavy on your heart knowing that dog’s life is literally now in your hands! I cannot turn away. So, I messaged Joyce about Arkie and sent her the picture of Keb (AKA Cassidy) who we rescued in his place. HAPPINESS
And, because this pup was saved because of Joyce’s DAD I asked her what her dad’s name is and she told me Butch. So, I messaged our vet’s office asking that he be named Butch and within an hour I got a message from Dr. Lavine saying Butch would like HER name changed. WHAT? The shelter networks and tells you nothing about the dogs and then what they do tell you is wrong! It’s not hard to be angry at them for so often getting it wrong. The dogs at this place have little chance. Bad enough they have little time but the networking and information on the dogs is minimal as well. ANGER, DISGUST, SADNESS, SURPRISE!

And, so, after thinking about this for a while I remembered Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid…………AND, SO OUR RESCUE CASSIDY was given her name and her chance at life! HAPPINESS!
